  • Everything from steel racking systems to a Warehouse Management System (WMS) from a single source
  • Jungheinrich delivers “best solution” and comprehensive service

Hawle Armaturen GmbH, manufacturer of heavy-duty valves for use in municipal water and sewage management as well as for gas supply, has commissioned Jungheinrich to construct a new logistics warehouse. The company will build a fully automated high-bay warehouse with more than 15,000 rack storage locations in five aisles at the Hawle headquarters in Freilassing by October 2024. The warehouse, planned as a greenfield project, will replace Hawle’s previous manual distribution center. This will allow the company, with sites in Germany, Europe and the USA, to gear up for additional growth.

Hans-Joachim Maier, Managing Director of project planner Maier Intraplan, explains his company’s selection of the Hamburg-based intralogistics experts: “Jungheinrich won us over with the best solution and their very high commitment to the implementation of our requirements.” “The chemistry was right from the very beginning and allowed for open and productive dialogue,” adds Thomas Bohl, Managing Director of Hawle Armaturen GmbH. “Jungheinrich impressed us as a complete provider of everything from a single source – from steel racking systems to stacker cranes to control units and WMS software,” says Bohl.

Ergonomic order picking

Finished goods from production will be stored in the high-bay warehouse, which is designed as a silo steel rack construction (72 x 35 x 25 metres). These will later be fed to order picking in a fully automated manner. A bridge construction connects the conveyor systems to the production line. The conveyor system connects to a manual storage area in the warehouse basement. There is also room for incoming merchandise as well as raw materials and semi-finished products. A chain conveyor system is used to transport pallet cages as well as Euro and special pallets weighing up to 1,200 kilograms. This provides smooth operation and ensures the safety of the different containers. The incoming goods station and six order picking workstations with ergonomic lifting tables are located on the ground floor.

In addition to the silo steel rack constructions including roof and wall cladding, Jungheinrich’s scope of delivery encompasses five stacker cranes with SPS and visualisation as well as the complete conveyor system with six order picking workstations. A key item on Hawle Armaturen’s order list is the Jungheinrich WMS for automated warehousing and material flow. Hawle was particularly impressed by the Jungheinrich IT experts’ meticulous preliminary on-site analysis of its IT processes.
