LFD Wälzlager GmbH focuses on forward-looking space utilisation: Jungheinrich implements the PowerCube, an ultra-compact storage system that offers maximum capacity on minimal space.
Hamburg – LFD Wälzlager GmbH, a leading global manufacturer of ball bearings and roller bearings, has commissioned Jungheinrich to automate its warehouse in Dortmund, Germany. The core of the project is Jungheinrich PowerCube, an innovative compact container storage system that impresses with previously unmatched space utilisation, maximum flexibility, and strong performance.
20,000 storage spaces in a minimum area with a load capacity of 50 kilograms per container
Given the forecast growth figures for the coming years, the family-owned company founded in 1978 is reaching logistical and structural limits with its existing commissioning system. The existing warehouse is already at full capacity; due to limited space availability, expansion is not possible. By using the PowerCube in the existing warehouse, LFD Wälzlager creates additional space without structural expansion and simultaneously increases the efficiency of the entire logistics.
On an area of just 484 m², the PowerCube creates around 20,000 storage spaces for containers with a payload of up to 50 kilograms. This is made possible by a compact vertical stacking of up to 19 containers on top of each other with a system height of 7.5 metres. The energy-efficient PowerCube shuttles move at up to 4 m/s below the racking system, ensuring that the required performance is always achieved.
“The Jungheinrich PowerCube is a brilliant and space-saving solution for efficiently storing heavy cartons and small parts in our existing premises. We are convinced we have found the optimal automation solution for our planned growth,” explains Veit Loeffler, owner of LFD Wälzlager GmbH. The commissioning of the system is planned for the second quarter of 2026.
Complete solution from a single source
A significant advantage of the PowerCube for LFD Wälzlager was that there was no need for costly floor renovation, and the existing hall could be used optimally. The ability to flexibly expand the system and add additional shuttles also allows the company to scale its logistics as required and respond to future growth.
“Our PowerCube will not only increase efficiency and flexibility while minimising space requirements but will also be a decisive added value for our business partner's logistics processes in the long term,” explains Michael Sulcz, Project Manager Technical Sales PowerCube at Jungheinrich. “Especially for growing companies with limited space availability, the system is a real gamechanger.”
In addition to the warehouse, Jungheinrich also provides the Warehouse Control System (WCS), which seamlessly integrates with the existing Warehouse Management System (WMS) of LFD Wälzlager. The solution is complemented by ergonomic vacuum lifting devices to support commissioning.
